It’s 2013, yet 2.5 billion people in the world have no access to a basic sanitary toilet. That’s 40% of the world’s population.

A lack of sanitation near water and food sources causes untold death and disease from contamination. Diarrhea caused by this contamination kills 4000 children per day.

In terms of education, 25% of girls in India drop out of school because they have no sanitation.

Enjoy this astonishing, and funny, talk by journalist Rose George, author of The Big Necessity: The Unmentionable World of Human Waste and Why It Matters.
