June 2025

Summertime  and the living is easy…

While our kids are dreaming of the lazy, hazy days of summer without homework, 60 million girls is already looking forward to the upcoming school year in Rwanda and Ghana.

We are funding 2 projects at $200,000 each for this 2025 campaign year – thanks to your generosity.  It is the first time we have set a target of granting $400,000 in one year and with your help we know we can reach our goal!!

Our project evaluation team was looking for innovative girls’ education projects that our funding could help transform for our partners: whether by trying new creative ideas or by scaling proven past projects to larger parts of the countries where our partners work.  We are delighted to share more details about the two projects we have chosen – with CAMFED in Ghana and Right to Play in Rwanda.

Ghana

High school girls in Ghana.

The “Empowering Girls with Digital Climate Education and Experiential Learning in Rural Ghanaian Senior High Schools” project will directly address interconnected barriers to education and climate justice in Ghana, particularly in the rural areas with limited access to internet and ICT devices, and where CAMFED has established extensive partnerships with government schools. This $200,000 project is set to benefit approximately 3500 students across 10 Senior High Schools. These schools are primarily girls-only or have a majority of female students.

Rwanda

Girls in Rwanda learning through play with technology.

With the $200,000 grant from 60 million girls, Right to Play’s project ‘’Learning Through Play with Technology (LtPT): Girls for Climate Change Education in Rwanda’’ will contribute to climate change education efforts reaching 7,200 school aged children from 9 to 11 years old, especially girls, in 15 schools in the Rubavu District, a district that has been devastated by heavy rainfall and landslides.

This project is an expansion of an on-going project called Plug-in-Play (PiP). The LEGO Foundation has funded this learning through play with technology project since January 2021. Their funding will end in December 2025. Our grant will allow PiP schools to continue to support girls with technology and expand climate change education.

A wonderful early summer event…

On May 29th, 60 million girls was proud to present, once again, our Luncheon event at the Beaconsfield Golf Course.  Thanks to the generosity of an enthusiastic and loyal donor, all proceeds from the event directly supported 60 million girls.

It’s a great opportunity to get together with friends in a beautiful setting and it enabled us to share with new guests and longtime supporters some of the things 60 million girls has been working on.We spoke on the impact of our recent attendance at CSW69 at the UN in NewYork and at CIES in Chicago.  We shared the latest work we’ve been doing on our offline climate game, spoke about the continuing deep impact of the Mobile Learning Lab and presented our two new projects for 2025.

Thank you to everyone who attended for making this such an enjoyable get together and for continuing to support the meaningful work that changes girls’ lives.

The impact of our R&D team in Uganda

In February 2025, 60 million girls launched our new Climate Change Education Resource Database on Notion. We presented a webinar to all our partners in March to explain just how it works.

This initiative provides free and downloadable educational content curated to make it easy for the user to find the exact information they need. These resources are perfect for RACHEL devices, giving students offline access to educational videos, reading materials and activities on climate change and climate action.

Our partner Embrace International confirmed their successful download of resources from the Notion database and their deployment on RACHEL devices across 15 partner schools in Uganda just last month. Their effort contributes to enhancing learning outcomes for girls and children living with disabilities.

We look forward to further reports from the field on the use of these materials. Our R&D team will be updating and expanding the database every six months.

We are actively looking for content in all languages.  If you can help us, let us know!

Our Notion Database is available to explore.
