60 million girls will be high visibility in 2025!
60MG at the UN
The year ended with a bang as 60 million girls has invited to present our work at a parallel session to the United Nations CSW69 in New York in 2025. The 69th Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), the United Nations’ largest annual gathering on gender equality and women’s empowerment, will take place next March.
Under the theme “Educating Women and Girls: Advancing their Empowerment and Equality” 60 million girls is honoured to have been selected by the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) as one of four panelists for a 90-minute parallel session they are presenting along with Women Graduates-USA at the CSW69 in New York on March 13, 2025 .
Representatives of Member States, UN entities, and NGOs from all regions of the world are expected at CSW69 which will focus primarily on the review and appraisal of the implementation of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action and the outcomes of the 23rd special session of the General Assembly.
With our fellow panelists, we look forward to discussing progress and a way forward for women and girls to:
- meet challenges to equality and empowerment presented by cultural barriers and influencers;
- open doors to leadership;
- develop critical thinking skills;
- enable participation of women and girls in the development and governance of new technologies like artificial intelligence.
Chicago here we come!
60 million girls is also pleased to announce that we will be presenting a workshop at the 2025 annual Comparative and International Education Society (CIES) conference in Chicago from March 22-26th. The theme of the conference this year is: “Envisioning Education in a Digital Society”.
CIES has more than 4,000 individual members—researchers, analysts, practitioners, and students—representing over 1,000 universities, research institutes, government departments, non-governmental organizations, and multilateral agencies across the globe.
From cross-disciplinary perspectives, CIES members explore educational issues related to schools, students, teachers, and administrators—from early childhood and primary school to secondary and higher education.
Entitled “Digital offline learning for remote communities–10 years of field experience”, the workshop hosted by 60 million girls will be an opportunity to share our work developing the Mobile Learning Lab (MLL) for over a decade. Four of our partners will participate with us sharing their insights and stories of the use of the MLL in various contexts: in class, after school, in girls’ clubs, for children living with disabilities, for teacher training in indigenous communities in indigenous languages, to incorporate STEM learning for girls in high school, and to support climate adaptation and mitigation actions.
Our 2024 annual virtual conference
If you weren’t able to attend our annual conference in November, here is a link to the 30-minute video. It’s our way of sharing with you how your donations and support enable us to power some of the most innovative projects for girls’ education!
MLUWC breakfast fundraiser
A huge thank you to MLUWC (Montreal Lakeshore University Women’s Club) for organizing a fundraising breakfast event on November 19th at the Pigeon Café in Pointe-Claire. With over 40 guests in attendance, we were honoured to be able to share our work with so many highly engaged West Islanders. Deep thanks to Linda Sestock for coordinating a very successful event. The generous donations received are a great boost to funding our Retaining Girls in School project in Nepal.
