Engaged at the age of 5, Kakenya Ntaiya was set to participate in a female circumcision ceremony as a teen… and then be married.
But before the ceremony, she approached her father, and agreed to undergo the circumcision – as long as he allowed her to attend high school. Her TED x talk about this story and what happened next is incredibly moving, inspiring, and a true testament to the what girls and women through education.
Enjoy.
