AI for Good: Bridging the Digital Divide Through Innovation
For over a decade, the 60 million girls’ R&D team has pioneered innovative approaches to deliver quality education to marginalized and vulnerable girls across the Global South.
Our mission has taken us from designing community-integrated projects with local partners to developing our groundbreaking Mobile Learning Lab model—bringing technology directly to schools without internet access. Most recently, we created the world’s first offline climate change game, empowering children and youth in the Global South to develop agency in confronting our planet’s most pressing challenges.
Today, we’re turning our attention to one of the most transformative technologies of our time: artificial intelligence.
While legitimate concerns exist about AI’s potential negative impacts across society, we’re witnessing extraordinary examples of AI being harnessed for good—even in communities without electricity or internet connectivity. The key? AI Unplugged—an innovative approach that’s reshaping how we bridge the technology gap in the Global South, ensuring all students can access quality educational content from around the world.
The Conversation
We explored concrete, real-world applications of AI that are already supporting teachers and students from Brazil to Uganda and beyond. This isn’t about theoretical possibilities—it’s about proven solutions making a difference today.
We also shared insights on our two exceptional projects which will be made possible by the generous donors who answer the call of our 2025 fundraising campaign: empowering girls with digital climate education and experiential learning in Ghana, and supporting climate change education in Rwanda.
