The largest women’s conference in Canada’s history, Women’s Worlds 2011, will be held this July in Ottawa-Gatineau, and 60 million Girls will be there!

60 mg president Wanda Bedard and Ky’okusinga Kirunga, a field representative of the Stephen Lewis Foundation, will join Anita Nowak in presenting “Activism 2.0: Exploring social engagement through the lens of ’empathic action'”.

They will discuss the notion of “empathic action” and describe how its adoption as a philosophical approach to social action has the potential to drive social change.  Using the partnership between 60 million Girls and the Stephen Lewis Foundation as a case study, they will discuss how we can improve the effectiveness and increase the impact of grassroots efforts to support girls’ and women’s empowerment.

The presentation takes place July 7th.  More info here.

The theme of Women’s Worlds 2011 is “Inclusions, Exclusions, and Seclusions: Living in a Globalized World”.  Women’s Worlds is an international and interdisciplinary gathering of and about women, where academics, advocates, researchers, policy-makers, workers, activists, and artists of all ages from around the world will discuss globalization as it relates to women, as well as advancing women’s rights, women’s empowerment, and gender equality.
