On Monday, October 21st, 60 million girls will hold our 8th annual fundraising conference and silent auction. This year’s topic: girls’ education and empowerment through sport and play. And who better to speak on the topic than Olympic Gold Medalist Caroline Ouellette?

Caroline has been an Athlete Ambassador of Right To Play since 2004. 60 million girls partnered with Right To Play this year to support an education project in Ethiopia that promotes development through sport and play. The benefits of sport extend beyond the playing field into many aspects of a child’s life and include, amongst others, cooperation, teamwork, leadership and academic achievement. Right To Play encourages girls to participate in sport and fosters girls’ empowerment by challenging gender norms and raising self-esteem.

Caroline has visited a Right to Play project in Benin, Africa, and deeply understands the importance of role models for children in sports as well as for their overall healthy development. She is currently training for the 2014 Olympic games in Sochi, Russia. In addition to her formidable athletic achievements, Caroline is trained as a police officer and, in 2005, completed her Bachelor of Arts degree, specializing in Criminology and Women’s Studies.
